DIY Homemade Cleaners

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

You may have heard of panic buying in stores with the novel coronavirus. Panic buying occurs when consumers purchase large bulks of a particular product fearing that they would face shortages or price inflation. Some of the items that are being emptied in stores include toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes. Due to these decisions of panic buying, such products have become harder to access to many individuals who are in need.

If you have this problem, you’ve come to the right page. There are other convenient ways, other than store bought cleaning supplies, that work effectively at homes and offices with simple items on your shelves.

Caution⚠ : Before combining different ingredients, always remember to read the labels first. When some ingredients are combined, they can create fumes which are extremely hazardous to your health.

1. All-Purpose Cleaner

What you’ll need:

  • ½ c white vinegar

  • 2 tbsp baking soda

  • couple drops of essential oil for scent and disinfecting properties (tea tree, lavender)

Combine the above ingredients into a spray bottle, filling it with water to the top. You’re able to use this all-purpose cleaner almost anywhere from floors, walls, kitchen tables, etc.

2. Kitchen Scrub

What you’ll need:

  • 4 tbsp baking soda

  • 1 qt warm water

Baking soda alone makes a great cleaner. Mixing these two ingredients, you’re able to clean kitchen appliances, surfaces, and tabletops.

3. Homemade Disinfectant Wipes

What you’ll need:

  • 1 c water

  • ¼ c vinegar

  • drops of essential oils (tea tree, lemon, eucalyptus)

  • cloth to soak the liquid in

Mix the water, vinegar, and essential oils together. Place the cloth in an empty container and pour the mixture. Let the mixture soak well into the cloth before use.

These are some simple methods to making your own homemade cleaner. However, this method is insufficient in completely killing germs off your area .
